W’burg Kiwanis Club holds officer inductions

The Williamsburg Kiwanis Club was encouraged to be leaders in their community, especially for children during their October monthly meeting.

Williamsburg Kiwanis Club officers for 2017-2018 are Vice-President Steven Jett, Secretary Linda West, President Cissy Lunce, Treasurer Terrell Medley and President-Elect James Jackson.

Past Kiwanis Kentucky-Tennessee District 6 Governor Chuck Fletcher encouraged the club to be active in the community and schools and to serve as mentors to children.

“The most important thing folks is to remember it is about kids,” Fletcher told the club. “We are losing a generation of young people because they are not getting the ideas of what it means to be a leader in the community and the ideas of what it means to give back to the community and ideas of what it means to be a servant.”

Fletcher also challenged club members to be the best they could be and to bring in more members.

“The more folks we bring in, the more things we are able to do together,” he added.

Fletcher pinned the new officers during the meeting, which was held at the Williamsburg Civic Center, including Cissy Lunce, who was pinned as the new president.

“I do appreciate I have been entrusted with this position. One of the challenges that we have before us is for continued recruitment for members. We have a lot of members but we don’t have a lot of active members. We need to do things that will encourage those people to come out and help us,” Lunce said.

“We need to make a big showing in our community, especially for young people. As leaders in this community, we need to know that there are a lot of children here, who don’t have a mother or father. There are a lot of children being raised by grandparents. I think Kiwanis is one of those groups that could come out on a Saturday morning or a Friday afternoon and be able to have some kind of programs or something for those children.”

Past Kiwanis Kentucky-Tennessee District 6 Governor Chuck Fletcher was the keynote speaker for the Williamsburg Kiwanis Club’s officer induction ceremony last month.

Lunce added that by the first of the year, she hopes to have a list of planned projects for the club.

James Jackson was pinned as president-elect, and Steven Jett was pinned as vice-president.

Next year, Jackson will take over as club president and Jett will become the president elect.

Linda West was pinned as the new club secretary, and Terrell Medley was pinned to serve another term as club treasurer, a position he has held for several years.

David Perry, who served as club president last year, will remain on the board of directors for the club as past president.
