Racing returns to Corbin Motor Speedway this year

Racing will return to Corbin Motor Speedway on April 1.
The man who brought Saturday night racing back to the Corbin Speedway is doing it again in 2017.
Jerry Brock said practice for the upcoming season will begin Saturday with the first racing scheduled for April 1.
“We will have practice every Saturday in March,” Brock said.
“We will probably start racing around 5 p.m. and when the weather gets hotter, we will start at 6 or 7 p.m.,” Brock added.
Brock said the 2016 season was hampered by the amount of work it took to get the facility ready to host events.Repairs had to be made to the grandstand area that had become unsafe after the facility sat dormant for two years.
In addition, with no place to run, Brock said many of the regular racers had either gotten out of the sport or didn’t have a car that was ready to run.
“We spent so much fixing the facility last year that we couldn’t do payouts,” Brock said.
Brock said approximately 25 drivers attended a meeting on Feb. 11, which was used to gauge interest in running this year.
“Guys were talking and people are wanting to race,” Brock said. “So I thought I would give it another shot.”
Brock said he plans to run six classes of cars if he has enough entries. The classes include: Late models, super street, pure street, front wheel drive, mini cup and, new this year, absolute stock.
“With absolute stock, you don’t do anything to the car but take the glass out and put a cage in,” Brock explained.
Brock said the season will be good if the facility draws at least 40 entries on a regular basis.
The March practice sessions will be held noon until 5 p.m. each Saturday.
“It is very important that the drivers who are going to run be there on the last practice day (March 25),” Brock said.
Brock said admission prices are remaining the same. The grandstand will be $10 per person with children under 10 admitted free. Pit passes will be $30 whether you are racing or not.
“We will have a boy’s gift and a girl’s gift giveaway each week,” Brock said. “We will also be drawing for free pit and grandstand passes for the following week.”
The season is scheduled to run through the end of September.
Corbin Speedway is a half-mile banked track located on Cumberland Falls Hwy.
