Meth, drug paraphernalia found during Wednesday traffic stop

Two men were arrested Wednesday afternoon after Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies discovered a large amount of methamphetamine inside a vehicle parked behind a north Corbin business.

Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the department’s public affairs officer, identified the individuals as Willis L. Black, Jr., 50, of Corbin, and Eric S. Jarrett, 32, of Lily.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a black GMC Envoy SUV at approximately 4:30 p.m. after the driver, later identified as Black, attempted to leave the scene.

Deputy Jake Miller and his K-9 “Gotcha” conducted a sweep of the vehicle after Deputy Landry Collett found track marks consistent with IV drug use on Jarrett.

The occupant admitted to taking drugs.

After “Gotcha” alerted to the presence of drugs, deputies conducted a search, recovering the methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

Black and Jarrett were each charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance – methamphetamine – 2 grams or more and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Black also faces charges of trafficking/transferring a dietary supplement, failure to signal, careless driving, no insurance, and other violations.

Jarrett was also charged public intoxication – controlled substances.

Black and Jarrett were lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
