Knox deputies use Taser to end vehicle, foot pursuit in Gray

A dramatic series of events led to the arrest of Charles Douglas Tuttle, 47, of Gray, on Tuesday.

Knox County Sheriff’s deputies were standing on the side of the road at Sam Parker and US 25E and, reportedly, observed Tuttle turn onto Sam Parker Road.

According to an arrest citation, when Tuttle saw the deputies, he floored his vehicle and accelerated at a high rate of speed.

It goes on to say that Tuttle disobeyed the emergency equipment and would not stop; he eventually ran another vehicle off the roadway on Sam Parker before making a right turn onto Rucker Lane.

A deputy reported that Tuttle was holding his door open while driving.

Reportedly, when he reached the dead end of the street, he jumped out of the vehicle and began to flee on foot while carrying a bag.

Officers, reportedly, gave chase on foot; following the subject through a yard while screaming commands to stop and get on the ground, but the report states that the subject was running, tripped, and fell into a ditch line.

It goes on to say that once Tuttle attempted to get back up, a deputy deployed a taser. Tuttle put both hands under his body and would not show his hands, with one being in or around his waistband.

Deputies report they gave numerous commands and strikes to attempt to get the man’s hands free. After scuffling with the subject, deputies were able to handcuff him. He had three active warrants, two of which were for fleeing and resisting arrest.

After further investigation, it was determined that the tag on the car did not belong on it and expired in 2006.

Tuttle was operating on a suspended license and stated he that he had smoked marijuana.

According to the citation, he stated he had been to his ex-wife’s house and took the vehicle without her knowing about it.

Tuttle was arrested and charged with wanton endangerment, menacing, resisting arrest and fleeing or evading police, second-degree (on foot).

He is being held in the Knox County Detention Center on a $5,000 cash bond.
