Kiwanis Cruise for Kids set for Saturday
If you’re a motorcycle enthusiast and would like to take a scenic ride while also helping support local children, then you might want to check out the 14th Annual Williamsburg Kiwanis Cruise for Kids Saturday.
Registration for the ride will take place starting at 9:30 a.m. in the Forcht Bank Parking lot in Williamsburg followed by a mandatory rider meeting at 10:15 a.m. and a kickstand start at 10:30 a.m.
There is a $25 entry fee for riders and a $20 entry fee for passengers.
Kiwanis Cruise for Kids Co-Chair Dave Bergman said the ride would leave from Forcht Bank in Williamsburg and travel to Red Bird Rock in Clay County, which features a fairly well known petroglyph rock.
“It is a rock that used to sit about 20 feet off the ground by Red Bird Road,” Bergman said. “Some of the inscriptions on the rock go back to 300 B.C. It is just amazing. They brought it into the city of Manchester and it sits there in their city park. We are going to go over there and take a look at it. We are going to take the back roads.”
Bergman said the total round-trip route is about 175 miles and there would be a couple of stops each way with snacks provided and to give people a chance to get rehydrated.
“We want to make sure we get all riders out for an enjoyable event and back without incident,” he added.
Bergman said that so far there are about a dozen riders pre-registered and he anticipates having about two-dozen riders total for the ride.
The previous two years, the club has held the ride in the fall, but Bergman said organizers decided to move it back to July this year in an effort to provide participants with variety.
“We want to make sure that we have diversity each year. If we were just the same time every year then people might not want to come so we decided to move it around,” he noted. “This is the 14th location, which is the important part of this ride.”
Wendy’s of Williamsburg will provide lunch for the riders.
In the event of a rainout, the ride will be held Sunday at the same time.
“We can’t thank the community enough for their support of this event. The Williamsburg Kiwanis Club is excited to give back to the community,” Bergman said.
The Williamsburg Kiwanis Club has used proceeds raised from past Cruise for Kids events to help purchase playground equipment at Williamsburg City Park and Briar Creek Park and, to help build the City of Williamsburg-Kiwanis Skateboard Park.
The proceeds from this year’s event will benefit the Kiwanis Club Playground Equipment Fund for Williamsburg and Whitley County.
