Jason McDaniel resigns as head coach of Lady Hounds basketball program
Jason McDaniel, who has led the Corbin Lady Hounds basketball program for the past four years as head coach, has announced that he is resigning.
McDaniel decided to step down earlier this week, but he said that it was not an easy decision for him to make. “I still love basketball, and I still love coaching,” he said. “I’ve fought with this for the last few weeks, but my life has changed quite a bit, and I just felt like it was time.”
Elaborating on exactly how his life has changed, McDaniel said that his priorities have shifted somewhat since he recently got married. “In the past, all I really had was basketball,” he explained. “But coming home to a family this past year has made me realize that I can’t be geared that way anymore.”
As for who will fill the now vacant position of Lady Hounds basketball head coach, Corbin Athletic Director Andrew Roark said that the job has been posted, applications are being accepted and he is confident that a hire will be made in time for the team’s summer sessions.
McDaniel compiled an overall record of 75 wins and 53 losses in his four years leading the Corbin High School girls basketball program, including three 50th District championships in 2014, 2015 and 2016, and one 13th Region championship in 2014. Although he is stepping away from coaching right now, he said that is keeping his options open for any opportunities that might arise in the future.
