High speed chase ends after bogging down in mud

Whitley County Sheriff’s deputies got a bonus Monday night as a high speed chase in the Corbin area ended with the suspect’s car bogged down in the mud and the interior littered with meth precursors and an active meth lab.

Deputies arrested the driver, Brian Ray Kidd, 30, and the passenger, David L. Miller, 40, both of Corbin.

According to Sheriff Colan Harrell, deputies James Fox and Jonas Saunders were called to the area near Slusher Cemetery Road off of Tidal Wave Road in response to a complaint of a reckless driver.

Fox wrote in the arrest citation that he located the 1994 red Ford Mustang convertible and attempted to make a traffic stop.

However, the driver, later identified as Kidd, refused to stop and a chase ensued. At some point, Kidd reportedly turned onto a dirt road and into the woods.

Fox gave chase on foot and soon came upon the vehicle stuck in the mud with Kidd and Miller still inside.

“Above violator (Kidd) had active meth lab under his feet on driver side,” Fox wrote in the arrest citation.

Harrell said deputies had to taze Miller to secure him in handcuffs.

In addition to the meth lab, deputies reported finding syringes, pipe, rolling papers, and mini torch along with assorted meth precursors.

When deputies ran the car’s license plate, Harrell said it came back registered to a van.

Kidd was charged with first-degree fleeing or evading (motor vehicle), manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of meth precursors, DUI, possession of drug paraphernalia, improper and no registration and failure to maintain insurance.

Miller was charged with manufacturing meth, possession of meth precursors and resisting arrest.

Not guilty pleas were entered on behalf of both Kidd and Miller Tuesday in Whitley District Court.

Kidd and Miller are each scheduled to return to court at 1 p.m. Tuesday for a preliminary hearing to determine whether there is probable cause to present the case to a Whitley County grand jury.
