Corbin Schools to offer free breakfast, lunch to K-12 students
Corbin Independent Schools will be participating in the national school breakfast and lunch programs, meaning all students will receive free breakfast and lunch during the upcoming school year.
“It is for the entire school district, K through 12,” said Janie Keith, Food Service Director at the district.
Under the program, students must take three of the five items offered at each meal.
“The only requirement is that one of the items they take must be a fruit or vegetable,” Keith said.
For those with larger appetites, Keith said extra portions would be available.
“If someone wants, say, an extra hamburger, it is typically $1,” Keith said adding that students that want additional “å la carte” items must either have the money with them to pay for them, or have the money on their account.
“They just can’t charge å la carte items,” Keith said.
As part of the program, Keith said families will be asked to complete a household and income form to determine their eligibility to receive other benefits, and to determine school funding levels through both state and federal programs.
