Corbin Lions Club hosting illusionist Dinky Gowen for fundraiser
The Corbin Lions Club is welcoming back illusionist Dinky Gowen as part of the organization’s on-going efforts to improve the vision of individuals in the community.
Gowen, who performs regularly at Beech Bend Amusement Park in Bowling Green, will bring his show to the Betty Hamilton Center for the Performing Arts at Corbin High School on November 11.
Mike Pawula, president of the Lions Club, said while Gowen and other magicians have performed in Corbin to benefit the club for the last 12 years, the show has been different each year.
“Every show that has been done in the past has had a different theme. This year’s show is going to be a circus type show,” Pawula said.
The show will include: Live animals, fire eating and juggling, magic, mind reading and comedy.
“The comedy makes it a little more colorful for the children,” Pawula said. “Dinky tries to perform mainly for the children to get a bunch of laughs from them. The parents also have a great time because they see their children are excited and having a great time.”
The show will begin at 7 p.m.
Tickets are $10 each with all proceeds going to the Lions Club. Tickets will be available at the gate.
“The money is used for sight conservation programs and to purchase eyeglasses for people,” Pawula said adding that all of the money raised by the event will remain in the Corbin area.
Pawula added that Gowen is making phone calls in an effort to sell more tickets for the event.
“I have had several people that have received a call ask me about them. They are legitimate,” Pawula said.
Tickets are also being made available to area school children through the school Family Resource Center.
“The child will gets a free ticket, so only the parent will have to pay to get in,” Pawula said.
Pawula said anyone that would like to contribute to the Lions Club’s efforts but who is unable to come to the show is welcome and encouraged to do so.
Donations may be sent to the Corbin Lions Club at P.O. Box 365, Corbin, KY 40702.
