Community spring cleanup events kick off Saturday

Spring has sprung and opportunities abound to get outside, and even help improve the community.

Events kick of Saturday with the return of the Corbin City Yard Sale.

Downtown Director Aaron Sturgill said the sale will be held between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Depot Street between Fourth Street and Gordon Street.

Vendors may begin setup at 7 a.m. Vendors are not charged a fee to participate, though they must provide their own tables.

Public parking lots are open off of both Gordon Street and Fourth Street.

The yard sale will be held on the first Saturday of each month through October.

The third annual #keepcorbinclean community cleanup is scheduled for April 13.

Volunteers will meet at Sanders Park on Main Street to pick up supplies and then spread out across the city to pick up trash.

Garbage bags, safety vests, and gloves will be provided

Volunteers may select the area of the city that they wish to cover.

In 2018, approximately 20 people came out to participate, covering Gordon Hill, South Main Street, Cumberland Falls Hwy., Master Street and throughout downtown.

Corbin Public Works will pick up the accumulated trash bags from the roadway.

In 2018, they hauled away several pickup truck sized loads of trash.

At the completion of the pickup effort, volunteers are invited to return to Sanders Park for a free lunch courtesy of the Corbin Rotary Club.

In addition, each volunteer will receive a t-shirt

“Picking up trash is not a fun thing but it is a rewarding thing to do,” said Corbin Mayor Suzie Razmus during the 2018 event.

“You are seeing a huge difference,” she noted.
