Third annual #keepcorbinclean event set for Saturday

The third annual #keepcorbinclean community cleanup will be held Saturday.

Volunteers will meet at Sanders Park on Main Street to pick up supplies and then spread out across the city in an effort to make Corbin a little more presentable.

“I think people can appreciate a pleasing environment,” said Corbin Mayor Suzie Razmus.

“They recognize that it takes all of us doing their part. I appreciate that they are willing to do this,” she said.

Razmus said volunteers are free to choose what part of the city they wish to work.

“I think everyone sees the problem areas in their own neighborhood,” Razmus said explaining as long as it is within the Corbin city limits, the volunteers have free reign.

“Our #keepcorbinclean truck has to stay within the city limits,” Razmus said noting volunteers may leave the trash bags along the roadways and city employees will bring the truck around to collect them.

While the event is scheduled from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., volunteers are welcome and encouraged to participate at any point within the timeframe, and for as long as they can.

“It is going to be very casual,” Razmus said.

Garbage bags, safety vests, and gloves will be provided.

At the completion of the event, the Corbin Rotary Club will provide a free lunch to the volunteers and organizers.

In addition, each volunteer will receive a t-shirt.

In 2018, approximately 20 people came out to participate, covering Gordon Hill, South Main Street, Cumberland Falls Hwy., Master Street, and the downtown areas. They collected enough trash to fill a pickup truck three times over.

“The more, the merrier,” Razmus said of how many volunteers she would like to see participate.
