Williamsburg falls to Middlesboro in All “A” region finals
A Hailey Richardson RBI that brought Kayla Gibson home in the top of the sixth inning was the only run that the Williamsburg Lady Jackets would score in their 11-1 loss to Middlesboro Thursday night in the championship game of this year’s 13th Region All “A” Softball Classic.
The Lady Jackets defeated OBI and Lynn Camp to earn a spot in the All “A” region finals, but with their loss to Middlesboro they drop to 2-1 on the year. Junior Kelsey Tye pitched the entire game Thursday, striking out three batters.
After the game, Williamsburg Head Coach Jason Prewitt said, “We acted really timid. In these situations, we just don’t know how to take the pressure yet. We’re still pretty young. We’re still trying to learn the game, and figure the game out. They (Middlesboro) are used to winning, and we’re just not used to winning these types of games.”
Despite his disappointment in the outcome at Middlesboro, Coach Prewitt is looking forward to the opportunity to face 50th District rival South Laurel this weekend. He commented that a win over the defending district champion Lady Cardinals would provide a big confidence boost for his team moving forward. First pitch for that contest is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon at South Laurel High School.
