Weather causes four-week delay in Knox County Detention Center construction

The number of adverse weather days has put a damper on the Knox County Detention Center construction project.

“We’re running about four weeks behind schedule. We hope to grab that back once we get everything dried in,” reported Matt Mills with Codell Construction to the Knox County Fiscal Court during its June 27 meeting.

“This week’s been rough with rain,” agreed Judge-Executive JM Hall.

Despite the unavoidable delay, Mills reports the construction teams have not encountered any big problems and there are no major issues pending.

“Everything’s still running the way we want it to. Nothing out there pending that we’re concerned about,” continued Mills.

The Fiscal Court then approved a Codell pay estimate in the amount of $811,146.15 and a change order in the amount of $437 for changes to plumbing.

The court also held the second reading of the 2018-19 budget, which sets total budgeted appropriations at $13,003,332. The budget breaks down as follows:

Total General: $3,543,525

Total Road: $3,315,807

Total Jail: $2,837,000

Total Local Gov. Economic Assistance Fund: $1,331,933

Total Occupational License: $738,565

Total to 911 service: $726,500

Total Hospital: $59,307

SEKRB Park: $448,729

LEPC: $1,966

Also on the agenda, the court approved Sherry Blevins as Mike Trent’s replacement for Deputy Coroner following his retirement.
