Veterans fly to D.C. with Honor Flight Kentucky

Hundreds of thousands of men and women across the United States have sworn to serve this country, and Honor Flight Kentucky’s mission is to honor those heroes one flight at a time.
Seventy-three veterans from across the Commonwealth with stories of bravery flew to Washington, D.C., on Saturday, September 21 to see memorials dedicated to them – free of charge – thanks to a sponsorship by Kentucky’s Touchstone Energy Cooperatives. Three of those attending were from Corbin, one from London and one from Barbourville.

Veterans, who are accompanied by a Guardian, visited the World War II Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Air Force Memorial, the Women’s Memorial, the Marine Corps War Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery.

“We have one mission – send as many of these brave heroes as possible to see the memorials that are dedicated to their service and sacrifices,” Honor Flight Kentucky Ambassador Jeff Hohman said.

Co-ops have sponsored nine Honor Flights through the years, funding hundreds of veterans’ trips to see their memorials.

“Their dedication to our nation’s heroes is amazing,” Hohman said.
