U of C makes U.S. News list of “Best Colleges”
The University of the Cumberlands has once again made the U.S. News and World Report list of best colleges and universities, according to the annual “Best Colleges” rankings released Sept. 13.
The widely known and respected rankings are designed for “prospective students and parents looking for the school that best fits their needs.”
“University of the Cumberlands has a long history of providing students with a world-class education,” said UC President Larry Cockrum. “Today, our reach extends beyond our traditional on-campus community to include our cutting-edge online and hybrid classrooms. While our methods of delivery have evolved, we remain mission-driven to provide a quality education that is accessible, achievable and affordable to deserving students both on-campus and online.”
In its 2017 publication, U.S. News ranks Cumberlands as a top-tier regional university. Rankings are based on a variety of factors, including: graduation and retention rates, student SAT/ACT scores, average class size and student-faculty ratio.
“I encourage parents and students to use the wealth of data and information in Best Colleges to identify schools that suit their specific needs,” said Brian Kelly, editor and chief content officer of U.S. News. “In addition to considering factors like location and cost, families should pay close attention to graduation and retention rates. These are important indicators of how well a school supports its students both academically and financially. Getting into a good school means nothing if you cannot graduate.”
Schools classified as regional universities offer a full range of undergraduate programs and some master’s programs but few doctoral programs.
Since opening its doors in 1888, Cumberlands has worked diligently to develop and maintain a reputation for academic excellence. UC offers promising students of all backgrounds a first class, liberal arts education within a Christian context.
