Two Redhounds, two Lady Hounds sign to play college soccer this week
It was a big week for the Corbin High School soccer program after a total of four players – two Redhounds and two Lady Hounds – signed to continue their athletic careers in college.
On Wednesday, Lady Hounds Maddy Saylor and Emily Foster both signed on with the University of the Cumberlands women’s soccer program. CHS girls soccer head coach Hannah Goins said of her two outgoing seniors, “I am extremely proud of both Maddy and Emily for their accomplishments.”
“Both of these young ladies have been a big part of our team over the past four years. They have been extremely dedicated to our program, and have an amazing work ethic. They always gave 110% and led by example, being positive role models for their teammates.”
“They are proof you can do anything you set your mind to. They set a goal to play at the collegiate level, and worked hard to achieve it. They love the game so much, and I can’t wait to see all they will accomplish at the next level.”
On Friday, Redhound Trey Cima also signed with University of the Cumberlands, while teammate Neel Patel made it official that he is headed to play at Berea College. CHS boys soccer head coach Armando Cima said of Trey, his son, “I’m very proud of him both as a player, and as my son. The program at Cumberlands is on the rise, and I’m looking forward to being able to get down there to see them play.”
As for Patel, Cima commented, “Neel transferred in this year, and he really made our program so much better. Obviously, going on to play college soccer was a goal of his, and it’s something that he worked very, very hard for. I’m super-happy that he has been able to do that.”
As seniors in 2018, Cima and Patel helped lead the soccer Hounds to a 13th Region championship win and an appearance in the quarterfinals of the KHSAA state championship tournament. Saylor, Foster and the Lady Hounds were both a part of the regional championship team that advanced to the quarterfinal round of the 2017 girls state championship tournament.
