Tues. Night Highlights: Regional tournament baseball, softball coverage for May 28, 2019
No coverage area teams remain in this year’s 13th Region softball tournament, and the 2019 13th Region baseball championship will be a meeting that few predicted when the week began…
In Tuesday night softball action, the region tournament host Whitley County Lady Colonels played North Laurel very closely, but the Lady Jaguars were able to prevail in the end, winning 2-0. The loss ends Whitley’s season with a 17-17 overall record. North will face 49th District rival Clay County for this year’s regional championship Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Whitley County High School.
In baseball action at Lincoln Memorial University, the Corbin Redhounds were able to get past the Knox Central Panthers 6-2 to improve to 28-10 on the year and advance to Wednesday night’s regional finals. Many thought this year’s championship would end up being a rematch between the Redhounds and the Whitley County Colonels, but the Barbourville Tigers had other plans, defeating Whitley 4-3 in the late game Tuesday and earning the other spot in the 2019 13th Region tournament finale. With the loss, the Colonels end their season with a record of 25 wins, 10 losses.
Corbin and Barbourville will meet back at LMU in Harrogate, TN Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. with the winner advancing to the semi-state round of competition this Saturday, June 1, at Morehead State University. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
