Tues. Night Highlights: April 16, 2019
The following is a recap of the action involving coverage area high school baseball and softball teams on Tuesday night, April 16.
The Corbin Redhounds remain perfect in the 50th District baseball standings, traveling to Whitley County Tuesday evening and picking up a 4-2 victory over the Colonels to improve to 11-6, 4-0. With the loss, Whitley now stands at 12-6, 2-2.
Cole Hicks pitched a complete game for the Hounds against the Colonels, striking out five batters. Chance Dismuke did most of the work on the mound for Whitley, pitching six innings and striking out six. Teammate Jimmy Green pitched one inning and struck out one Corbin batter.
In other 50th District baseball action, the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets traveled to London Tuesday the face the South Laurel Cardinals. It was a close game, but the Jackets fell in the end by a score of 6-5, dropping them to 6-4 on the year, 0-4 in district play.
In 51st District baseball, the Lynn Camp Wildcats lost to Knox Central 11-1 Tuesday, dropping them to 4-10, 1-2.
In softball, the Corbin Lady Hounds picked up a major victory over visiting South Laurel Tuesday, defeating the Lady Cards 2-0 to improve to 4-4 on the season, 2-1 in 50th District play. Adriana Paul pitched all seven innings for Corbin, with their two runs coming courtesy of RBIs from Sarah Stewart and Shelby Stewart.
Meanwhile, the Williamsburg Lady Jackets fell to 0-8 after a 22-0 loss to visiting McCreary Central, and the Lynn Camp Lady Cats picked up two wins on the road at Jellico, TN to improve to 12-7 overall.
