Tip leads cops to suspected meth dealers

A tip concerning possible drug activity at a south Corbin home led to the arrest of two individuals on drug-trafficking charges Sunday night.

Whitley County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 49-year-old Sammie B. Smith of Corbin and 32-year-old Christina Conley of London after they discovered a crystal substance believed to be “ice” methamphetamine at the residence on Clover Meadows Drive off Ky. 2983 (Corinth Road).

According to Sheriff Colan Harrell, deputies responded to the scene about 10:45 p.m. after receiving the tip.

Harrell said Sergeant Kirk Mays initially spoke with Smith, who agreed to show them where the drugs were hidden.

Mays reported finding the bag containing the crystal substance, along with several smaller bags containing the same substance, empty plastic bags and a set of digital scales in the drawer of a nightstand.

Smith was charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance – methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Smith is being held in the Whitley County Detention Center on a $50,000 cash bond.

Conley was charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance – methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest and second-degree disorderly conduct.

Conley is being held in the detention center on a $25,000 fully secured bond. In the event she is released on bond, she will be subject to home incarceration.

A juvenile under the age of 15, who was also at the residence, was placed into the care of a relative by social services.
