Three high school graduation ceremonies now set at The Arena
If you are planning to go see a local high senior graduate this year, then chances are good that you will be heading to The Arena in Corbin, where graduation ceremonies for Corbin High School, Whitley County High School and Lynn Camp High School will be held in the coming weeks.
Below is a rundown of when local graduation ceremonies, and some other related activities will be happening.
• Corbin High School will hold its graduation ceremony at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 19 at The Arena in Corbin.
• Williamsburg High School seniors are scheduled to graduate on Sunday, May 26 in the J.B. Mountjoy Gymnasium. The keynote speaker for the graduation ceremony will be Dr. Christian Key, an orthopedic surgeon and a Williamsburg High School alumnus.
Honors Night was held on May 18 at 6 p.m. in the school auditorium with U.S. Coast Guard Lt. Jerry Anderson as the featured speaker. He too is a Williamsburg alumnus.
A Baccalaureate ceremony, which is being organized by local churches, will be held on May 19 at 7 p.m. at Main Street Baptist Church.
• Lynn Camp High School’s graduation will be held on Friday, May 24, but the location has been moved from the gymnasium to The Arena in Corbin.
Frank Shelton, Director of Communications for the Knox County Public Schools, said school and district officials made the decision to move graduation after discussing it with staff at The Arena.
“For Lynn Camp seniors, The Arena eliminates the need for ticketed seats so that close family members can sit in the lower level chairback seating,” stated Shelton.
Graduation is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
• Jellico High School will host its graduation at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 24. The ceremony will be held at the Church of God Mountain Assembly, located at 256 N. Florence, Ave. in Jellico.
• Whitley County High School seniors will graduate on Sunday, June 2 during a ceremony scheduled for 2 p.m. at The Arena in Corbin. The keynote address will be delivered by either Senior Class President Jared Wilson or Vice-President Thor Blankenship. Honors night was May 7 in the high school cafeteria. National Honor Society President Jared Wilson scheduled to serve as emcee.
