Taylor, Cornett to be crowned at Corbin’s 76th May Day Festival
Katty Ann Taylor and Brynlee Alise Cornett will be crowned the 2019 May Queen and Tiny Queen during the May Day Festival at the Corbin Arena on Friday, May 3.
During the performance, the 2018 May Queen, Abigail Renee Martin, will present the crown to Corbin
Mayor Pro Tem Andrew Pennington, who will crown the 2019 May Queen. The 2018 Tiny Queen, Nichole Campbell Gardner, will crown her successor. Following the crowning ceremonies, the Queens and their Courts will be honored by the presentation of the May Day program, performed by Corbin Preschool, Kindergarten, and Primary students. This year’s event features a Broadway theme and will offer acts named “The Wizard of Oz,” “The Lion King,” “Mary Poppins,” “The Little Mermaid,” and “Grease,” along with several others. The traditional winding of the May Pole will be presented by the Gail Frederick School of Dance.
The May Day Festival has been sponsored annually by the Ossoli Club of Corbin since 1944 and has become a tradition enjoyed by many families in the area. All proceeds from the May Day Festival are used to fund community service projects; half the profit from each event is donated to the classes performing in the program. Festival profits have also been donated to furnish a kitchen for the Corbin Public Library’s new addition, to provide Meals on Wheels, to assist the Knox-Whitley Animal Shelter, to furnish a Level II Nursery bed and care station at Baptist Health Corbin, to help save the Carnegie Library building, and numerous other worthwhile causes throughout the year.
This year’s May Day Festival is set for 7:30 p.m., Friday, May 3, at the Corbin Arena. Tickets to the event may be purchased at the Arena Box Office or through Ticketmaster. Tickets can be purchased on the night of the performance, but discounts are available for advance purchase. Arena security policies will be in effect for the performance.
