Rea Perkins Smart, 86, a retired school librarian, wife of the late Paul H. Smart, died Friday, December 16 at her home in Versailles.
Born in Williams-burg, a daughter of the late Wade H. and Edna Nelson Perkins, she was educated at Cumberland College and was a proud graduate of the University of Kentucky with a Library Science degree.
Rea was an avid Wildcat fan and supporter. She was a former member of the Williamsburg Baptist Church and was a member of the Versailles United Methodist Church, was a member of the Cornerstone’s, and the Woodford County Retired Teacher’s Association. Her teaching career included early years at Jenkins, Pine Knot, and many years at Woodford County High School where she impacted many students.
Survivors include her daughter, Jennelle Smart of Versailles, her granddaughter, Letitia Reanelle (Ryan) Roark of Versailles, her grandson, Jonathan T. Marshall of Nicholasville, and six great grandchildren, Reanne Roark, Addison Roark, Lainie Roark, Jalen Marshall, Trey Marshall, and Ellie Marshall, a niece, Jenny Elizabeth Alley, and two nephews, Harold David Smiddy and Thomas Nelson Smiddy.
Funeral services were held at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home with Pastor Rebecca Peterson officiating.
Committal and burial followed on Wednesday, December 21 at Versailles Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Ryann Roark, J. T. Marshall, Jalen Marshall, and Trey Marshall.
