Razmus makes history, elected as Corbin’s first female mayor

For the first time in Corbin’s history it will be, “Mrs. Mayor.”

Suzie Razmus made history Tuesday being elected as Corbin’s first female mayor.

Suzie Razmus defeated Shannon Hall Tuesday night in the race to succeed outgoing Mayor Willard McBurney.

In official totals, Razmus garnered 1,052 votes in Whitley County to Hall’s 414. An additional 214 votes were cast for Razmus in Knox County, with Hall receiving another 153, making the final total 1,266-567.

“I feel so honored to be able to represent the citizens of Corbin,” Razmus said. “I’m just going to work really hard to move us forward.”

Razmus, who previously served two terms on the Corbin City Commission, will take over the duties effective Jan. 1.

As mayor, Razmus will preside over the city commission meetings.

Razmus emphasized that she is ready and willing to work with the commissioners.

“I’m all about building a consensus on the commission. I want to hear from the commissioners on the direction they want to take,” Razmus said.

“It is not all about me. It is about all of us working together,” she said.

Razmus will serve a four-year term.
