Possible Corbin annexation meets opposition at public meeting
A public hearing was scheduled for last Thursday to discuss the possible annexation of three segments of state highways into the city of Corbin. Henry Heaberlin headed the hearing then opened the floor to hear the opinions of the residents of the proposed area.
The annexation, if it occurs, would only include Kentucky Highway Department’s right of way, meaning property that belongs to the state. A majority of the proposed area is west of I-75 including Highway 2989 (Browing Acres Road), Highway 1259 (Barton Mill Road), and Highway 312 (Gordon Hill Pike). A small section of Barton Mill Road east of I-75 is also a proposed segment.
