Police identify suspect in Tuesday robbery at Hometown Bank

Corbin Police have identified the suspect in the robbery of Hometown Bank Tuesday and are asking for the public’s help to locate him.
The individual seen on video pointing a gun at a teller and demanding money has been identified as 55-year-old Timothy Sample.
“He has been staying here in Corbin in various places,” said Corbin Police Capt. Coy Wilson, the department’s public affairs officer.
Wilson said police have been unable to find a driver’s license issued to Sample, even from out of state, but have confirmed his as the suspect through his prison records.
Sample is described as a white male, 6’ tall, weighing about 200 pounds with gray hair. He is considered armed and dangerous.
“He has been involved in previous robberies in North Carolina and Tennessee,” Wilson said.
Police were called to the bank at the intersection of U.S. 25W and Corinth Road, across from Circle K, at approximately 2:05 p.m.
Wilson said the male suspect came into the bank and produced a semi-automatic pistol while demanding money.
The suspect fled the scene in a gray vehicle that police have confirmed to be a 2013 Chrysler 200, with Kentucky license plate 559-WST. It was reported stolen.
Sample actually borrowed the car from a friend of his, and when he failed to return it, it was reported stolen, Wilson said when asked how it was stolen.
Corbin Police, along with Whitley County Sheriff’s deputies, Kentucky State Police and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement officers combed the area near the bank Tuesday afternoon in search of Sample.
Wilson said police believe Sample is working alone.
“Right now, we don’t have any reason to think he has an accomplice,” Wilson said.
Oak Grove Elementary School, which is located approximately one mile south of the bank, was placed on lockdown for a short time. The lockdown was soon lifted and school was dismissed at the scheduled time.
