Over 50 pills found in woman’s body

A Louisa woman is facing felony charges after deputy jailers found over 50 pills concealed inside a body cavity Sunday morning that she claims she didn’t place there, according to her arrest citation.

Williamsburg Police Officer Shawn Jackson charged Brenda Sue Frazier, 35, with public intoxication, tampering with physical evidence, first-degree promoting contraband and third-degree trafficking in a controlled substance.

Her initial arrest stems from an alleged incident about 7:10 a.m. near the intersection of Ky. 92W and 10th Street at BP that also involved three men, one of whom was allegedly shooting up drugs in the restroom, Jackson wrote in court documents.
Jackson also charged James Roy Arthur, 37, of Nitro, West Virginia; Gary Lynn Frazier, 46, of Ashland; and Nicholas A. Marcum, 27, of Louisa; with public intoxication. Arthur and Gary Frazier were also charged with use/possession of drug paraphernalia.

Jackson said when he arrived at the store to investigate a complaint about people acting suspicious and strange, one of the men tried to flee from the bathroom area.

After exiting the store with one suspect, Jackson noticed a second one trying to exit the store.

"Both subjects appeared to be under the influence. It was determined through the investigation that both subjects were using the bathroom to do some type of illegal drugs," Jackson said in a press release.

All four suspects had slurred speech and were unsteady on their feet, Jackson wrote in court documents.

Brenda Frazier and Arthur had pink power residue on their nostrils, according to their arrest citations.

Gary Frazier told police he had been taking Darvacets, and could not perform any sobriety tests, his citation stated.

"Offender (Marcum) was in the bathroom at BP … had fresh needle marks on his arms, and stated he ‘shoots up OC’s’ Needle and syringe were recovered in bathroom garbage can and appeared to have just been used," Jackson wrote on the arrest citation.

"I believed that one of the four had drugs concealed on them, and I even asked them before we went into the jail so they could avoid a promoting contraband charge," Jackson said.

"They all said they didn’t. Once we got in the jail, one of the male subjects stated that the female did have it concealed on her."
Jackson said after he and Deputy Jailer Christy Bryant talked to Frazier, she admitted she had pills concealed in her vaginal area.

"However, She said she didn’t know who put them there," Jackson said.

Frazier told police that one of the men must have placed the drugs there while they were having sex, but said that she didn’t realize the drugs had been placed there at the time, Jackson said.

The recovered pills included 55 long, skinny white oval shaped pills, and 39 halves or pieces of some pills that were all wrapped in plastic, according to her arrest citation.

Jackson said the pills are believed to be Xanax pills, but have been sent to the crime lab for testing.

While he isn’t a doctor, Jackson said he would imagine that there could be health issues related to taking pills that had spent time inside a body cavity even if they are wrapped tightly in plastic.

"If you are buying pills from an individual, all I can say is be leery of where those pills have been," warned Williamsburg Police Chief Wayne Bird.

Jackson said he learned from the defendants that they had been to a pain clinic in Florida, which is where they allegedly got the drugs, but that no prescription pill bottles or forms for prescriptions were found.

Brenda Frazier and Gary Frazier both pleaded not guilty during their arraignments Monday morning in Whitley District Court.
District Judge Jason Price appointed the public defender’s office to represent them, and scheduled April 13 hearings in their cases.

He set a $7,500 cash bond for Brenda Frazier and a $500 cash bond for Gary Frazier.

Marcum and Arthur both pleaded guilty during their arraignments, and received $100 fines plus court costs on the public intoxication charges.

Price sentenced Arthur to 90 days in jail on the drug paraphernalia charge, but agreed to conditionally discharge the jail sentence for two years.

Williamsburg Police Detective Bobby Freeman and auxiliary deputy Dorman Patrick Jr. assisted with the investigation.
