Local Nursing Homes honored at the Kentucky Association of Health Care Facilities Quality Awards Banquet

A joint effort by Hillcrest Health and Rehab staff and residents to help those going through chemotherapy, a newsletter from Williamsburg Nursing and Rehab, and staff from Hillcrest, Williamsburg and The Heritage Nursing and Rehab, were all honored by the Kentucky Association of Health Care Facilities at its Quality Awards Banquet in Louisville.

KAHCF, the trade association that represents proprietary and non-proprietary long term care facilities throughout the Commonwealth, presented over 40 awards at the banquet.

Hillcrest staff collected nearly 2,000 items for residents to put together Chemo-Care bags to be delivered to local cancer treatment centers. The bags contained socks, inspirational messages and other items to help those patients go through chemo.

The effort received media coverage and Facebook support, and received the PR Award of the Year from the Association. Hillcrest staff honored were Mary Smith among the Top 10 Caregivers and Carolyn Carnes, a cook, among the Top 10 Supportive Caregivers.

Williamsburg RN Deborah Hill was named the Overall Winner in the Top 10 Nurses division, and “The Chatter Rag” received the Association’s Public Relations Award for its colorful and enticing design that draws people in to find out more about the facility, long-term care and the residents at Williamsburg.

Unit Coordinator Jessica Broughton at The Heritage Nursing and Rehabilitation was also named on the Top 10 Nurses list.

“We congratulate all of these providers on winning these awards. They are an example of the many outstanding caregivers we have working and caring for our residents across Kentucky. It is an honor to recognize them for their care and compassion,” said KAHCF board chair Debra Finneran.
