Notice of Intention to Mine
Pursuant to Application Number 918-0467, Renewal
In accordance with KRS 350.050, notice is hereby given that Mountainside Coal Co., Inc.; 7692 South Hwy. 25W; Williamsburg, Kentucky 40769 has applied for a permit renewal for a surface and auger mining and reclamation operation, affecting 397.42 total acres, located approximately 2.5 miles west of the Jellico Creek community in Whitley and McCreary counties, Kentucky.
The operation is located approximately 0.15 miles northeast and 0.15 miles south of KY Route 1673’s junction with KY Route 92, and 0.1 miles south and 0.1 miles north of Pleasant Run of Jellico Creek. The latitude is 36° 41’ 10” and the longitude is 84° 16’ 54”
The permit is located on the Hollyhill U.S.G.S. 7 ½ minute quadrangle map. The operation will use the contour and auger methods of surface mining. The surface area to be disturbed is owned by George and Daisy Caddell, Bobby and Freda Mays, Donnie Patrick, Donald B. Patrick, Ronnie Patrick, Thomas and Inez Troxel, Paul and Delores Rowe, and White Lumber, LLC. The operation will affect an area within 100’ of KY Route 92 and KY Route 1673.
The renewal application has been filed for public inspection at the Department for Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement’s Middlesboro Regional Office; 1804 East Cumberland Avenue; Middlesboro, Kentucky 40965-1229. Written comments, objections, or requests for a permit conference must be filed with the Director; Division of Permits; 300 Sower Boulevard, Frankfort, Kentucky 40601.
NOTICE OF BLASTING SCHEDULE

Alden Resources LLC, 332 West Cumberland Gap Parkway, Suite 100, Corbin, Kentucky 40701; telephone (606) 523-9760, shall conduct blasting operations on its 261.13 acre surface mine permit, located approximately 0.67 miles southwest of Gausdale in Whitley County.
The proposed operation is approximately 0.36 miles north from KY Highway 11’s junction with KY Highway 92 and located 0.38 miles north of the confluence of Buffalo Creek with Poplar Creek.
The latitude is 36° 44’ 21” and the longitude is 83° 59’ 23”. The surface area on which blasting operations will be conducted is owned by Brenda Lambdin, Virginia Hansford, Stella Rice, Roy Lee Car, Raymond Croley, Roscoe Croley, Daniel Rice and Donald Smith.
Blasting will be conducted each day Monday through Saturday during daylight hours. No blasting will be conducted after official sunset. This schedule shall be in effect from March 2017 to March 2018.
Any major alterations to the blasting schedule will be published. Unscheduled blasting may occur in emergency situations when rain, lightning or other atmospheric conditions or operator or public safety requires unscheduled detonation. The nearby residents will be notified of the unscheduled blast by using audible signals and the blast shall then proceed as a regular blast. Entry to the blasting area will be regulated by signs or barriers. An authorized company representative will prohibit access to the blasting area by unauthorized persons at least five (5) minutes before each detonation and until the all clear signal is sounded. Warning signals will be made by using a siren in the following manner:
WARNING SIGNAL – A one (1) minute series of long blasts five (5) minutes prior to the blast signal.
BLAST SIGNAL – A series of short blasts one (1) minute prior to the detonation.
ALL CLEAR SIGNAL – A prolonged blast following the inspection of the blast area.
These signals will be audible within one half mile of the blasting site. This notice is published pursuant to CFR 715.19 Surface Mining and Reclamation and Enforcement Provisions and KRS 350.220 and the regulations relating thereto. The Kentucky DMRE Permit Number is 918-0469.

The Whitley County Board of Education is now accepting sealed bids for many commercial kitchen equipment items including but not limited to deep frying systems, mixers, blast chiller, warming ovens, combi ovens, stainless steel tables, rack stands, 3 compartment sink, microwave, serving lines, tilt skillet, slicer and much more. Other bid items available include a floor scrubber, folding table, office chairs, metal roofing, and scrap metal. The Whitley County Board of Education reserves the right to reject any or all bids, and to waive informalities. Successful bidders must remove items from the property by April 14, 2017.
