UPDATED: Laurel deputies charge London man following investigation into double shooting in Keavy Thursday

Following an investigation into a double shooting Thursday in Keavy, Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies have charged a London man with two counts of criminal attempt to commit murder.

Twenty-eight-year-old Landon Collins, who had admitted to deputies to firing the shots that injured the two men, was arrested Thursday afternoon.

Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the department’s public affairs officer, said the victims have been identified as 57-year-old Ralph T. Boggs and 57-year-old Garrett Turner, both of London.

“The trailer is rented by Collins’ ex-girlfriend,” Acciardo said. “One of the men who was shot is the girlfriend’s father.”

Deputies were called to the residence at 921 Locust Grove Road at approximately 11:10 a.m. in response to a complaint of shots fired.

Acciardo said Boggs, the girlfriend’s father, was shot in the head while Turner was shot in the stomach.

“The girlfriend had called her father to come to the trailer when Collins got there,” Acciardo said.

Boggs and Turner were to be airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center. However, weather precluded that from happening and Acciardo said they were taking to UK by ambulance.

Acciardo said Boggs and Turner are both in extremely serious condition.

Officials at UK could not provide an update on their conditions.

Acciardo said investigators have determined that these two individuals had come to the residence to speak with Collins.

“There was an altercation and shots were fired,” Acciardo said, noting Collins admitted to firing the shots from a 9-millimeter handgun.

Collins was not injured.

“The only weapon we found was the 9-millimeter that Collins threw out into the yard,” Acciardo said when asked whether Collins was claiming self-defense and whether Boggs and/or Turner had any weapons.

Collins was initially detained for questioning and later charged and lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center

“We don’t believe anyone else was involved,” Acciardo said.

Detective Charlie Loomis is leading the investigation.
