KSP arrest one man in Knox County stabbing
Kentucky State Police have arrested a London man who allegedly stabbed his mother and stepfather Sunday in Knox County.
Thirty-five-year-old Joe Gibson is facing two counts of attempted murder in connection with the incident that police say occurred about 1 p.m. somewhere along Ky. 1803 in northern Knox County.
Trooper Shane Jacobs, public affairs officer at Post 10 in Harlan, said the call initially came in to KSP Post 11 in London as the victims, identified as 52-year-old Connie Smith and 49-year-old Randy Smith had driven to the residence at 1360 Black Water Road in Laurel County after the stabbing occurred.
Jacobs said the Smiths and Gibson were all in the vehicle with the Smith’s in the front seat.
Connie and Randy Smith were both airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center.
“The throat was cut on both,” Jacobs said, describing the weapon used as a small knife.
Officials at UK could not provide an update on their conditions.
Gibson was arrested just before 8 p.m. Sunday.
Jacobs said it unknown what may have lead to the incident.
“All of them were under the influence,” Jacobs said.
KSP Detective Bryan Johnson conducted the investigation, resulting in the arrest of Gibson.
Jacobs said police have found nothing to indicate anyone else may be been involved.
Gibson is being held in the Knox County Detention Center on a $250,000 cash bond.
Gibson is scheduled to be arraigned at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Knox District Court.
