Keavy man charged with assaulting deputies
A Keavy man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly assaulting a Laurel County Sheriff’s deputy who was attempting to serve an arrest warrant.
William Freeman, 52, is facing charges of third-degree assault on a police a officer, second-degree fleeing or evading police – on foot, and resisting arrest, in addition to the warrant charging him with failure to appear in Laurel District Court.
Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the department’s public affairs officer, stated that Deputy Josh Scott, Deputy Shannon Jones, and court security officers Judy Morgan and Chris Blaylock went to a residence on Campground Court as part of a separate criminal investigation.
When deputies learned that Freeman was wanted, they attempted to take him into custody, only to have him flee to the rear and hide under a bed.
“Following a scuffle with deputies where this individual attempted to kick deputies, this individual was taken into custody,” Acciardo stated.
Freeman is being held in the Laurel County Correctional Facility on a $5,000 cash bond.
