I-75 widening project set to begin Monday near Corbin

Construction work on the widening of Interstate 75 near Exit 29 is scheduled to begin Monday.

Officials with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 11 office in Manchester said the $53.5 million project will widen the interstate in both directions to six lanes.

“Crews will begin milling and laying asphalt on the outside shoulders in both directions. Traffic will be shifted to the two outside lanes once the shoulders have been paved,” officials explained.

The project includes the reconstruction of both bridges over the Little Laurel River just north of the exit.

The project will continue north to tie in with the existing six-lanes at mile point 33.2 near the weigh stations.

L-M Asphalt Partners LTC., d/b/a ATS Construction out of Lexington was awarded the contract for the road construction.

Sub-contractor Kay and Kay Contracting out of London will be doing the bridge construction.

The project is scheduled to be complete by June 30, 2021.

Officials ask motorists to be cautious while traveling through the work zones, and to note that the posted speed limit is reduced from 70 to 55 mph.
