Harris excited for first season as Lynn Camp track & field head coach
Allen Harris just finished his first season as head coach of the Lynn Camp High School football program last fall. This spring, he is taking on another title as the new head coach of the school’s track and field program.
“We’re looking to compete,” Harris said recently. “We’ve been practicing for about a month now, working out indoors when the weather is bad. We’re looking forward to the season getting started.”
“We’ll be able to gauge where we’re at a lot better once we get to an actual meet, but our kids are competitive, and they’ve been working hard. They want to become better. Hopefully we can build some interest this year and get a lot of kids involved.”
Harris said that he has a good mix of younger and older athletes in his first year at the helm. “We have everyone from eighth graders to seniors on the team,” he explained. “I think that will help make us competitive, and I believe that we should be able to do some pretty good things this year.”
Speaking specifically about what the strengths of the team will be, Harris said, “I think our strongest area will be with our relay teams. Our boys relay team in particular should be pretty strong.”
In closing, Harris said of the upcoming spring season, “I wasn’t coaching track last year, so I’m not exactly sure where everybody fits in right now. We should have a much better idea soon, though.”
“Both the boys and girls are working really hard, so I’ll be excited to see where we are when we can finally start competing.”
