Gray duo charged in Christmas Eve shoplifting incident
Stores are known to mark down merchandise as the Christmas holiday approaches, but Walmart in Corbin took exception to a Gray duo who allegedly attempted to get a 100-percent discount on a camouflage jacket, thermal underwear and other items Saturday afternoon.
According to Sheriff John Root, Walmart loss prevention had detained 52-year-old Elmer Burnette and 31-year-old Rebecca Adkins for allegedly attempting to shoplift the items.
Deputy Gary Mehler and Cody Faulconer were dispatched to the store and took Adkins and Burnette into custody, charging each with one count of theft by unlawful taking – shoplifting of the value under $500.
Adkins and Burnette were both ordered released from the Laurel County Detention Center on their own recognizance on the shoplifting charge.
However, Burnettte remains in custody on an outstanding bench warrant.
