Former Felts Music Place serving as home for ‘Harvest Time Revival Center’

The former Felts Music Place on Fifth Street in Corbin is getting a new lease on life.

The building has received a new coat of paint inside, and more appropriate décor to transform it into a home for Harvest Time Revival Center.

“What we plan on doing is to host a Saturday night singing and preaching along with serving a meal,” said Hershel Walker, a retired pastor who has undertaken the effort along with his wife, Doris.

“There used to be Christian supper clubs,” Walker explained. “Now, there is no place where Christians can go and have a decent meal.”

At 6 p.m. Saturday night, Harvest Time will host its first event.

Walker said at the event, which he described as a “Singing with the Saints,” several local choir groups will perform.

The first part of the event will be traditional singing. The second half will feature Christmas songs.

The singing will be followed by a congregational service.

“We will have good preachers that everybody loves to hear,” Walker added

Walker said he felt led by the Lord to this undertaking following a tent revival he held in the field across the road from the building in October.

“We heard they were going to close,” Walker said of Felts. “We had such a tremendous response from the tent revival, that we looked into this.”

Walker emphasized that he is not attempting to compete with any church or take members away from them.

“I just want to help and encourage the Christians and the pastors,” Walker said.

Walker said since signing the six-month lease on the building, he and several volunteers have been busy, repainting the interior and changing the lighting to make it brighter, adding decorations more in line with a church setting and adding curtains and stage curtains.

“It was a lot of black inside,” Walker said of what the interior was like before the change.

Walker said he has an option to extend the lease for an additional six months and an option to purchase the building after one year.

Walker said anyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.

When asked about dressing for the event, Walker said it will be casual, but acknowledged that means different things to different people.

“What would you feel comfortable wearing if you were going to meet the Lord,” Walker explained.

Walker said events will be held every Saturday night.

The December 10 event will feature Jesse Buell from Middlesboro preaching and Voice of Praise singing.
