Firefighters from five departments unable to save home

Firefighters were unable to save this Pleasant View home early Tuesday morning.

Despite the efforts of firefighters from five local departments, a southern Whitley County home is considered a total loss after a fire early Tuesday morning.

Pleasant View Fire Chief Thomas Manning said the fire was reported about 3 a.m. Approximately 18 firefighters responded to the scene.

When firefighters arrived at the scene about 75 percent of the single-story wood-framed house was already burning and the roof had collapsed.

“It was pretty much totally engulfed when we arrived,” Manning noted.

Firefighters aren’t sure what caused the blaze or where in the home it started, but no foul play is suspected at this time.

Manning said that he is still investigating.

No one was injured during the blaze.

According to neighbors, the residents of the home had moved about one month ago, Manning said.

Firefighters from Pleasant View, Goldbug, South Whitley, Emlyn and Williamsburg fire departments were on the scene about four hours.
