Fire destroys family’s home in Gray Friday

Area firefighters were told when they arrived at the scene of a house fire on Indian Creek Road Thursday morning that they might be facing their worst case scenario – someone trapped inside.

Firefighters were called to the scene at 150 Indian Creek Road off of Ky. 6 in the Gray community about 10: a.m. in response to a 911 call of a structure fire with flames showing.

“It was all lit up when the first truck arrived,” said Woodbine Fire Chief Rick Fore.

Joseph Schulten, a neighbor, told firefighters that the SUV parked in the driveway belonged to Jonathan Garrison, who lives at the home with his parents, Ronnie and Kathy, and his daughter, Celina.

“I tried getting in the back door to yell and see if anyone was inside, but it was too hot,” Schulten said explaining that the majority of the home was engulfed in flames when he made his way down the hill from his house.

“The only thing not in flames was the back,” Schulten added.

Schulten said when the first Woodbine Fire Department arrived on the scene he did what he could to help with the hose line. As they got near the home, live ammunition inside the home began going off from the heat of the fire.

Schulten told firefighters that the SUV belonged to Jonathan Garrison and that he may still be inside adding that he delivered pizzas at a local restaurant.

The fire had consumed most of the home, leaving sections of the frame standing.

Jonathan Garrison arrived on the scene approximately 30 minutes later.

“I had left the house about 9:30 a.m. and went straight to London,” Jonathan Garrison said explaining that he had taken a different vehicle.

Garrison said Celina was at school and his parents had left to go to the store.

West Knox firefighters were called for manpower and to provide tankers.

Firefighters were on scene until about 2:10 p.m.

Fore said the Red Cross has been called to assist the family.

No one was injured.
