Corbin woman arrested after 3 children found in squalid home
Two people were arrested at Corbin Manor Apartments Friday morning after Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies were called to investigate separate complaints of drug use, and children living in squalid conditions.
Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the department’s public affairs officer, said Jamie Zimmerman, 21, of Corbin is facing three counts of second-degree wanton endangerment while Connie Burton, 54, is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
“We have been there several times before and found the children in nasty living conditions,” Acciardo said of what led to the charges against Zimmerman.
The children, ages 18 months to five years, were placed in the custody of Social Services.
Deputies investigating the complaint against Burton recovered a clear pipe that appeared to be used to smoke methamphetamine and approximately 25 needles.
Acciardo said the apartment complex, located on American Greeting Card Road, is still the subject of frequent calls, but noted those calls are coming from management and other residents in an effort to improve the area.
“We have had quite a bit of cooperation from those folks over the last year,” Acciardo said.
