Corbin volleyball wins 13th Region championship Tuesday
As reported in the October 17 print edition of the News Journal, the Corbin Lady Hounds volleyball team hosted South Laurel Tuesday night in the championship game of this year’s 13th Region tournament.
In the end, the Lady Hounds were able to defeat the Lady Cards 3-1 (25-21, 21-25, 25-15, 25-22) to once again become region champs and improve their overall season record to 32-7.
After the game, Corbin head coach Bryan Johnson said of his team, “This is awesome. We’ve worked for this from the get-go, and the girls have never really lost focus. They’ve always known what they wanted to do. We just had to put it all together. I’m just very proud of what they’ve done.”
Next up for the Lady Hounds will be a return trip to the KHSAA state championship tournament in Louisville where they are scheduled to play the winners out of Region 1 on Friday, October 26 at Valley High School. When asked what his team needs to do in order to be successful at state, Coach Johnson said, “We have to stay focused, and not be content to just be there. We’ve talked about it all year long. We want to go beyond just one game in a state tournament. We want to go and be very competitive. We can’t rest now.”
