Corbin home damaged by fire, but dogs and pet pig escape

Corbin firefighters were called out Tuesday morning to battle a house fire on West Fourth Street.

Firefighters received the call at 9:18 a.m. in response to a 911 call from the residence at 410 West Fourth Street.

Corbin Firefighter Eric Philpot said when firefighters arrived, flames and smoke were pouring from the front door and windows of the two-story home.

“The home owner advised that the fire was in the living room,” Philpot said adding that a crew made entry and knocked down the flames.

“It was pretty quick,” Philpot said.

Philpot said the home belongs to Kay and Ronnie Hudson.

Kay and her elderly mother were both home at the time.

Philpot said Kay Hudson told him that she was coming down the stairs from checking on her mother when she smelled the smoke and went to investigate. When she saw the flames, she went back up the stairs to get her mother out of the house, calling 911 in the process.

In addition to the women, five dogs and one pet pig successfully escaped the home.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Philpot said there is a gas fireplace in the living room but it doesn’t appear to have been the cause.

Philpot said fire damage was contained to the living room and dining room areas and the front porch. There is smoke damage throughout the home.

Firefighters were on scene until 12:02 p.m. performing salvage and overhaul.

Whitley EMS treated Kay Hudson and her mother at the scene.
