Corbin gets $3,000 grant for Paint the Town project

The city of Corbin received a $3,000 grant from Tour SEKY Monday during the organization’s annual awards ceremony held at the Center for Rural Development in Somerset.

Corbin was one of several cities to receive awards. The money, said Corbin Main Street Manager Sharae Myers, will be used for facade improvements to several downtown businesses. The city received $50,000 last year for similar projects. Myers said some downtown businesses are still using money from 2008 to make improvements delayed by weather.

The city of Prestonsburg received the largest award of the day — $50,000.

London received $20,000 to help complete a Geneaology center. Barbourville got $15,000 to finish its Memorial War Park.

"Our entire regions was definitley winners," said Myers, following the event. "We are still basking in the reward we got last year, and to be awarded again is great. "We are very lucky and we know we are."

Tour SEKY serves the Fifth Congressional District represented by Republican Congressman Hal Rogers, of Somerset, who created the organization to help promote tourism in the district.
