Corbin Christmas parade scheduled for Saturday

Downtown Corbin will come alive with the sights and sounds of Christmas Saturday as the tourism commission presents the annual Christmas parade.

Corbin Tourism Director Maggy Kriebel said at least 25 different groups have already signed up to take part in the parade, adding that it is not too late to take part.

“We will be accepting applications until 4 p.m. on Thursday,” Kriebel explained.

Applications may be picked up at the tourism office in the Corbin Center or online at the Corbin Tourism website, www.corbinky.tourism.com.

Rules and regulations to participate are listed on the application.

However, Kriebel emphasized the biggest rule, which is there is only one Santa Claus in the parade.

“Our guest Santa is coming from the North Pole so he is the only one,” Kriebel said.

Kriebel said while participation in the parade has continued to grow, there is no maximum limit to the entries.

“Come one, come all,” Kriebel said. “We just want the community to come out and participate as well as watch and enjoy.”

Lineup will begin at 6 p.m. at Corbin City Hall.

The parade route will go north on Main Street to Gordon Street.

“Right now, the forecast is looking great,” Kriebel said when asked about weather. “In the event of rain or heavy snow the makeup date will be Thursday, December 8.”

Carcille Burchette will serve as the grand marshal of the parade.

Kriebel said Burchette, a retired school teacher, who serves on the Corbin Board of Education and is president of the Corbin Garden Club, was chosen because of her commitment to the city and the citizens.

“She has made tremendous contributions to the citizens of Corbin through the organizations she in which she is involved and through her volunteerism,” Kriebel said of Burchette.

Festivities will begin at 5 p.m. at Nibroc Park when Corbin Mayor Willard McBurney will officially light the Christmas tree.

Santa will be at the park from 5 to 6:30 p.m. to meet with children.

“The community has definitely supported the kickoff to the Christmas season,” Kriebel said.
