UPDATED: Corbin 11U All-Stars lose heart breaker to North London Wednesday
Update: It was a win-or-go-home situation for the Corbin 11U baseball All-Stars Wednesday, but unfortunately for them, their summer season came to a disappointing end after a one-run loss to North London.
North took a 2-0 lead against Corbin in the third inning, but RBIs from Eli Pietrowski and Clay Botner tied the score up at 2-2 heading in the fourth. NL scored one run to regain the lead, 3-2, but a pair of two-RBI singles from Cam Estep and Pietrowski put Corbin back on top, 6-3.
North came back in the fifth inning with four runs of their own to once again regain the advantage, 7-6. Corbin could not answer in the bottom of the inning, and gave up two more runs in the top of the sixth to make the score 9-6.
A Botner RBI double and an RBI single from Peyton Hamilton brought Corbin to within one run of tying the game again, 9-8, but they were ultimately unable to get another runner home. The loss stopped this year’s 11U All-Star team just one win short of a trip to the 2018 state tournament. All games of this year’s district tourney were held at the Barbourville Little League complex.
Original: The Corbin 11U All-Stars baseball team fell to North London in Barbourville Tuesday night, forcing a decisive game two for this year’s district championship.
Corbin got out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning Tuesday thanks to an RBI single from Eli Pietrowski and Clay Botner crossing home plate after an NL throwing error. Cam Estep scored in the top of the third on a wild pitch to extend the lead out to 3-0.
North finally got their bats going in the fourth inning, scoring two runs and putting the momentum on their side. That led into a four-run fifth inning that put Corbin behind, 6-3.
Corbin was unable to muster any more runs in the top of the sixth, going on to take their first loss of the summer. They now find themselves in a do-or-die situation, facing North London a second time on Wednesday with the winners walking away as 2018 district champs.
