Constable seizes 7 marijuana plants Wed.

A recent tip led authorities to seven suspected marijuana plants in southern Whitley County.

About 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 3, Third-District Constable Dorman Patrick Jr. and Williamsburg Police Chief Wayne Bird responded to 207 McKayla Circle, which is located about 12 miles south of Williamsburg in Kensee Hollow, after a tip reporting possible illegal drug activity, Patrick said in a release.

When police arrived at the scene, they discovered seven large green plants suspected to be marijuana on the front porch and around the front side of the residence, the release noted.

Six of the plants were growing in buckets and the other plant was growing in the ground in the front yard, Patrick wrote.

Police also found a large bucket filled with suspected marijuana remnants, Patrick wrote.

About 9:47 p.m., Patrick arrested Paul D. Houston, 52, and Ruby E. Mae Frudenstein, 72, both of 207 McKayla Circle, and charged them with cultivating marijuana more than five plants, and lodged them in the Whitley County Detention Center.

Both pleaded not guilty during their arraignment Thursday afternoon in Whitley District Court.

An Aug. 22 preliminary hearing has been scheduled in their cases.

Both were released from jail on $7,500 surety bonds Thursday.

South Whitley Volunteer Fire Department also assisted at the scene.
