Clay County woman caught fleeing Walmart with $32 in stolen goods

A Clay County woman was arrested Wednesday after allegedly trying to run from loss prevention officers at the Corbin Walmart with $32 in stolen merchandise.

Carrie Lewis Gordon, 41, of Manchester, was turned over to the custody of Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies after loss prevention found her riding in a truck leaving the parking lot.

When questioned by deputies, Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the department’s public affairs officer, said Gordon initially gave a false name.

“When she gave her correct name, it was determined that she had three outstanding warrants,” Acciardo stated.

Gordon was charged with theft by unlawful taking of the value under $500 – shoplifting and giving an officer false identifying information.

Acciardo said the driver of the truck was not charged.

“I’m not sure they could prove the driver was aware that an offense had occurred,” Acciardo said.
