CHS Roasting Redhounds advance to region competition
Corbin High School’s Roasting Redhounds will have the home kitchen advantage when they take on defending state champions Harlan County in the 13th Region Junior Chef Competition on May 14.
The Redhounds team comprised of Rachel Standifer, Jesse Parsons, Madison Lundy and Vincent Warner advanced to the region competition by defeating Whitley County in the district matchup on April 23, and will play host to the Black Bears at Corbin High School.
Corbin defeated Harlan County in the region competition in 2018. However, because there were empty slots at the state competition, Harlan County earned a place by virtue of its cumulative score in the region.
Corbin and Harlan County each advanced to the state finals, with the Black Bears taking home the title.
Standifer was a member of that runner-up team.
The winner is guaranteed a spot in the state championship to be held during the Kentucky State Fair in August.
The loser may still make the Sweet 16 based on its score compared to other region runner-ups.
