Area schools planning Veterans Day ceremonies

Area schools will be hosting a variety of programs and events Thursday and Friday to honor local military veterans.

Schools in the Corbin Independent, Knox County, Whitley County, and Williamsburg Independent school systems have assorted programs.

Corbin Elementary School will kick things off Thursday morning with a breakfast and assembly to recognize students’ family and friends who are veterans.

The students were asked to invite family and friends and return an RSVP so school officials had an idea of how many would be attending.

The event will begin at 8 a.m.

Corbin Primary School will hold a similar event beginning at 8 a.m. Friday.

Corbin Middle School will hold its annual Veterans Day event at 9 a.m. in the school gym.

All area veterans are invited to attend and will be recognized during the event.

Middle School students have been asked to submit pictures of family members who are or have served in the military. The pictures will be displayed during the ceremony.

Corbin Intermediate School is inviting area veterans to attend an event beginning at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the school gym.

Area veterans will be speaking to the students as part of the event.

Corbin High School’s JROTC will be hosting an event at 9 a.m. at Gilliam Gymnasium.

All area military veterans are invited to attend and to stand and be recognized for their service.

Whitley County High School will host its annual event beginning at 8:45 a.m.

Area veterans are invited to stop by the school and enjoy a hot breakfast courtesy of the FCCLA Class.

At 10 a.m., the ceremony will begin in the gym with the veterans being escorted out onto the gym floor behind their respective service’s flag.

The guest speaker will be Charles Peace, a U.S. Navy Veteran and past educator at Whitley County High School.

Oak Grove Elementary will host a ceremony to recognize family and close friends of students who served in the military.

Colonel Steve Sears, JROTC instructor at Whitley County High School will be the guest speaker.

Williamsburg Independent School will hold its seventh annual Veterans Day Assembly Celebration at 1 p.m. at Main Street Baptist Church.

Grades five through 12 will attend the event.

Donnie Bruce Patrick will be the featured speaker.

In addition, Ron Ford of the Woodmen of the World, who served in the Air Force, will speak to the students about the meaning of the U.S. flag.

Area veterans and members of the community are invited to attend.

Lynn Camp Middle and High School will honor area veterans with lunch and a ceremony.

Veterans are invited to come by the school at noon to enjoy lunch. The ceremony will begin at 1 p.m.

The ceremony is open to the public.
