50th District Baseball: Corbin sweeps SL, Whitley sweeps W’burg
50th District baseball competition got underway Tuesday and Wednesday with Corbin taking on the South Laurel Cardinals while crosstown rivals Whitley County and Williamsburg faced off against each other.
Tuesday – Corbin defeated South Laurel 10-0 at home to improve to 7-4 overall on the season. Cam Allen pitched all six innings for the Redhounds, striking out ten Cardinal batters. Corbin’s Austin Reynolds was 3-for-4 at the plate with one RBI.
Whitley County defeated Williamsburg 10-0 at home to improve to 8-4 overall, dropping the Yellow Jackets to 5-1. Caden Petrey did most of the work on mound for the Colonels, pitching 4-out-of-5 innings and striking out four Williamsburg batters. Petrey also went 3-for-3 at plate with one RBI. Teammate Caleb Rains went 2-for-2 with three RBIs, while Clay Shelton went 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Wednesday – Corbin defeated South Laurel 12-4 in London to improve to 8-4 on the season. Redhounds Cole Hicks, Chase Estep and Garner Chandler teamed up on mound to strikeout a total of 14 Cardinal batters. Estep and Ben Phillips both went 2-for-3 at the plate with one RBI each.
Whitley County defeated Williamsburg at Briar Creek Park 15-0 to improve to 9-4, dropping the Yellow Jackets to 5-2. Chance Dismuke pitched all five innings for the Colonels, striking out eight. The Whitley County offense was highlighted by multiple RBI performances from Rains, Petrey and Jake Prewitt.
