Would the sky fall if everybody just cooperated?

When you go shopping do you get the urge to also go to a race track or vice versa, when you go to the race track do you get the urge to go shopping?

property in north Corbin linked the two scenarios.

It is no more ridiculous than talking about annexing a strip of land along I-75 for the main purpose of selling alcohol. Ridiculous to even suggest stretching a town’s city limits miles down the Interstate for this purpose.

It is not going to happen. For once the City of Corbin holds the trump card.

There is nothing to stop Kohl’s, or any other commercial development from locating on that property now. But this is not about commercial development. I don’t know why the promoters even brought it up. It is about alcohol and gambling.

Right now much of the area is a dead zone. What a shame. The real blame for this are legal rulings prohibiting Corbin from annexing in that area. You know what that law is also biting Laurel County in the back.

I know it is out of the question to suggest, but would it be possible for Corbin and Laurel county to team up and try to get the law changed?

Before those against annexation get in an uproar, if citizens in your area are opposed to annexation then it won’t happen.

But I have been told that several businesses in the north Corbin area would like to be annexed.

It would be a win-win situation for both Laurel county and Corbin. That dead zone would come alive and both Corbin and Laurel County would prosper.

This could set a wonderful example of cooperation. That Knox County Robin Hood law that takes Corbin’s payroll tax, is a prime example of non-cooperation.

Remember, the area is north Corbin, not south London. It has been that way for decades and it will remain that way.

Would the sky fall if Corbin, London and Laurel County all got behind resolving an age-old problem. I don’t think so.
