Woodbine man accidentally shoots self, dies

Kentucky State Police say a Woodbine man found dead in his home Sunday after accidentally shooting himself while cleaning his gun.

According to Trooper First Class Don Trosper, Public Affairs Officer at Post 11 in London, Harold Pennington, 87, was found dead in his home on Ky. 26 about 9:31 a.m.

An investigation by KSP Det. David Lassiter determined that Pennington had been cleaning his 357 revolver when it accidentally discharged, striking him in the torso.

No foul play is expected and no autopsy will be performed.

Kentucky State Police were assisted at the scene by Whitley County Sheriff’s Deputies, and Whitley County Coroner Andy Croley.
